A Cloud Security Bill of Rights
A Webinar by Chris Hoff (@Beaker) and CloudSwitch
Cloud security remains a top concern for enterprise cloud deployments. Corporate IT and security teams hesitate to put applications and data outside their firewalls, and worry that the cloud is still too risky for large-scale adoption.
It’s time for the cloud industry to step up and meet enterprise requirements. Customers have the right to demand a safe environment for their apps and data. Cloud providers and their technology partners need to give customers the same security and control they already expect internally so they can use the cloud without risk or constraints.
In this webinar join, Chris Hoff, cloud evangelist and well-known security expert, as he shares his thoughts on where cloud security stands today – and where it needs to be. Chris explores the emerging industry standards and what enterprises should expect and demand from their providers. John Considine, CTO of CloudSwitch, presents market-leading technology that moves the state of cloud security to the next level. Chris and John highlight best practices and real-world examples of how enterprise customers are extending corporate security into public and private clouds.

Pharmas Are Leading the Way with Faster, More Scalable Computing in the Cloud
Pharmaceutical companies are leading the way in enterprise cloud adoption. As consumers of massive computing clusters for complex informatics as well as internal IT needs, pharmas are turning to the cloud to provision resources in minutes, not weeks. The cloud offers endless scalability and flexible on-demand extensions of existing compute grids. This can have game-changing impact for scientists, researchers, IT and the entire enterprise.
In this webinar you'll learn how market-leading pharmas are using the cloud:
- Burst/peak scale-out: Research IT and Informatics teams view the cloud as an extension of their internal cluster environments for increasing their agility in discovery research, accelerating accurate target identification and lead generation, and driving rapid transition to lead optimization and the pre-clinical stage of R&D.
- Improving the application lifecycle: Many development and test activities are being moved off expensive on-premise resources to the cloud, reducing data center fixed costs. Once tested in the cloud, the application environment can easily be brought back in-house when it’s ready for production. R&D IT can dramatically reduce the costs of application development and testing by matching resources to actual usage, and more accurately predict total cost of ownership.
- Collaboration: The cloud provides a flexible, cost-effective platform for collaboration across multiple organizations, including other pharma/biotech, universities, suppliers and outsourced developers. These organizations, which are often geographically distributed teams, require access to large pools of resources for short-term or ongoing collaboration.
See a demo of a real-life informatics use case in the cloud, using CloudSwitch’s innovative software. You will learn how CloudSwitch is enabling pharmas to leverage the power of the cloud with full enterprise security and control.

Making Hybrid Clouds Work in the Real World
Hybrid clouds have emerged as the dominant architecture for enterprise cloud computing. In this new model, data centers and internal clouds support a company’s core and steady-state requirements, while external clouds provide capacity on demand for spiky apps, load/scale testing, short-term marketing campaigns, and much more.
But what if a customer’s internal infrastructure isn’t compatible with a preferred external cloud? As enterprises discover this new environment, they want to use it without barriers, and with trusted internal tools and policies. They demand flexibility to choose from a range of cloud environments (including both internal and external clouds), to meet requirements for performance, QoS, scalability, security and price. For the hybrid model to succeed, enterprises will need provable security, portability and interoperability across many disparate environments – in which multiple cloud providers, APIs, architectures and hypervisors will co-exist.
This presentation features guest speaker Kamesh Pemmaraju, Cloud Research Leader at Sand Hill Group and former VP of Engineering/Director of Quality at Pegasystems, SolidWorks and Apani Networks, who discusses research findings on where cloud reality stands today versus all the hype, including which types of enterprises are adopting cloud and why (or why not). Kamesh also provides an overview of the hybrid cloud architecture and explains why hybrid clouds are poised for the greatest growth.
This is followed by a CloudSwitch presentation on how hybrid clouds are being deployed today by market-leading organizations. CloudSwitch describes real-life customer hybrid use cases and cloud architectures, followed by a product demo showcasing CloudSwitch’s award-winning software as it seamlessly and securely integrates internal and external environments so customers can run their applications in the cloud with full enterprise control.

How to Secure the Public Cloud for the Enterprise:
Making the Public Cloud Work Like a Private Cloud
Many companies would like to take advantage of cloud computing, but concerns about possible security breaches and loss of data hold them back. For cloud computing to gain traction in the enterprise, IT and security executives need to be certain that their company’s applications and data are safe and under IT’s control.
This presentation features guest speaker David Mortman, Director of Operations and Security at C3 and former CISO at Siebel Systems, who explores concerns with cloud security including loss of control and monitoring, lack of auditing and enterprise-grade encryption, as well as the perceived lack of enterprise-grade intrusion detection, disaster recovery and compliance. This is followed by an overview of how enterprises are starting to embrace the cloud and ensuring that cloud-based resources can run under full enterprise control using CloudSwitch software. Real enterprise use cases are presented, followed by a Q&A session with the speakers.
